Forecasting Impacts on Vulnerable Shorelines: Vulnerability Assessment along the Coastal Zone of Messolonghi Area—Western Greece

چکیده
The coastal areas of the Mediterranean have been extensively affected by transgressive event that followed Last Glacial Maximum, with many studies conducted regarding stratigraphic configuration sediments around Mediterranean. zone Messolonghi area, western Greece, consists low-relief beaches, containing low cliffs and eroded dunes, a fact that, in combination rising sea levels tectonic subsidence has led to substantial erosion. Coastal vulnerability assessment is useful means identifying coastline are vulnerable impacts climate change processes, highlighting potential problem areas. Commonly, takes form an “index” quantifies relative along coastline. Here, Vulnerability Index (CVI) methodology Thieler Hammar-Klose was employed, considering geological features, slope, sea-level change, shoreline erosion/accretion rates, mean significant wave height as well tide range, assess present-day area. In light this, impact performed under three different sea-level-rise scenarios. This study contributes toward management practices low-lying little data information, assisting decision-makers adopting best adaptation options overcome rise on areas, similar Messolonghi.

The Geoprocessing model on Coastal vulnerability index algorithm has been developed by integrating multiple geo-spatial parameters to identify the vulnerable zone along the South west coast of Tamil Nadu. Present study is to design the automatic executable geoprocessing model that can support to analysis the datasets such as geomorphology, coastal erosion and accretion, coastal slope, relative ...
متن کاملSome Problems of Vulnerability Assessment in the Coastal Zone of China
The Chinese coastline is 32000 km long. The 12 coastal provinces are very important in terms of population and their contribution to the economy, and contain 41.9% and 72.5% of China’s total, respectively. There are 8 coastal vulnerable areas and most of them are related to large deltas which presently have a large sediment-supply. 70% of muddy and sandy coasts suffer from erosion, but the main...
متن کاملVulnerable or Resilient? a Multi-scale Assessment of Climate Impacts and Vulnerability in Norway
This paper explores the issue of climate vulnerability in Norway, an affluent country that is generally considered to be resilient to the impacts of climate change. In presenting a multiscale assessment of climate change impacts and vulnerability in Norway, we show that the concept of vulnerability depends on the scale of analysis. Both exposure and the distribution of climate sensitive sectors...
متن کاملQualitative Assessment of the Coastal Plain of Talesh using the Modified DRASTIC Vulnerability Method
Given the fact that the DRASTIC index is ineffective in addressing the saltwater uprising issue in coastal plains, in the present study, three factors including land use, distance to shoreline, and differences between groundwater and sea level were added to the DRASTIC index. The proposed modification to DRASTIC was validated using the measured electrical conductivity (EC) data gathered from gr...
